Sonal Matharu

Sonal Matharu is Associate Director - Communications at Aakhya India.

Sonal has over 16 years of experience as an investigative journalist and a long-form feature writer covering health, social development, politics and policy. Her work is across print and multimedia platforms. As a ground reporter she has covered diverse and impactful stories which have shaped her strong storytelling and articulation skills. 

At Aakhya, Sonal is working to develop a portfolio of organisations in the field of health, wellness and lifestyle. 

Her rigour and commitment to her work has been recognised in India and globally. She has won several national and international awards including the International Press Institute Award, Laadli Media India as well as South Asia Awards, Press Institute of India-International Committee of the Red Cross Award and Prix Europa.  

She started her reporting career at Governance Now and Down To Earth magazines and moved on to work with NDTV 24X7, Network 18 and ThePrint.  

She is an alumni of Asian College of Journalism in Chennai.
